Some handy tips before heading out

Inspect and test all equipment onboard.  Confirm expiry dates on flares.
Make sure all the required safety equipment is onboard.
Start the motor at home before heading to the ramp.  Check for both forward and reverse gears and check the steering.
Check all oil and fluid levels like hydraulic steering, trim, battery fluid. 
Check all electrical components, most importantly bilge pumps, navigation and anchor lights.
Check fuel and make sure you always have double the amount that is required for your journey.
Last but not least, don’t forget the bait!
